On Friday night, Scott Leemon celebrated his 40th birthday with an event at New York City’s Sullivan Hall. The quintet that he assembled for this show featured George Porter, Jr., Eric Krasno, John Papa Gros, Mark Mullins and Adam Deitch. This was the first time that these five players had come together for such a gig and music extended well past 3AM. Highlights included Sneakin’ Sally through the Alley sung by Porter, a version of ‘Dear Mr. Fantasy’ animated by Mullins’ brass and Krasno’s vocal turn on ‘Don’t Tell Me.’ Guests included Krasno and Deitch’s Lettuce bandmate Adam ‘Schmeans’ Smirnoff and their fellow Berklee College of Music alum (and Dizzie Gillespies great nephew), Craig ‘Butter’ Glanville.
