On Saturday Donna Jean & the Tricksters celebrated the release of their self-titled debut album at New Yorks Knitting Factory. The two-set show featured a mix of new originals, Grateful Dead chestnuts and material rooted in Donna Jean Godchaux MacKays Muscle Shoals background, as well as a pre-show reception for VIP ticket holders. Partway through the groups first set, Jason Crosby, who played with the Zen Tricksters before securing his current post in Robert Randolph & the Family, added fiddle to both He Said/She Said and A Prisoner Says His Piece. Crosby also appears on both tracks on the new Donna Jean & the Tricksters release. The group is currently headed to Northampton, MA for a gig at the Iron Horse Music Hall this evening.
