Last night the University of Pennsylvania’s Social Planning and Special Events Committee (SPEC) hosted the Robert Walter Duo as their headlining act for the first show of their Jazz and Grooves fall show lineup. Walter performed a rare duo set with drummer Eric Kalb (Deep Banana Blackout) to an intimate crowd of UPENN students and Philadelphia locals. Walter culled material from his solo albums including originals like ’2% Body Fat,’ while also delving into the soulful likes of Big John Patton and Donald Byrd. Walter and Kalb closed the second set with an uplifting organ-heavy rendition of the John Lennon’s ‘Instant Karma! (We All Shine On).’ Report by Michael Duva
