Last winter, Govt Mule celebrated New Years Eve with a performance at New Yorks Beacon Theatre which was billed as the Dub Side of the Mule. The evening featured a set of music with reggae-icon Toots Hibbert and focused on the dub textures prominent on Govt Mules 2006 album, High & Mighty. On October 16 the group will revisit selections from that night when it releases the Mighty High EP. The recording features dub remixes of several High & Mighty tracks, dub versions of Govt Mules take on Al Green’s ‘I’m A Ram’, The Band’s ‘The Shape I’m In’ and Otis Redding’s ‘Hard to Handle’ and appearances by Hibbert, Willi Williams, Michael Franti and Gordie Johnson. As mentioned above, several cuts were taken from the groups New Years Eve event, while others were recorded in the studio. The disc was produced by Warren Haynes and Johnson, who also mixed the EP. Govt Mule will hit the road for an appearance at Torontos Kool Haus on October 3.
