While the music of Fat Mama, may have been a bit too abstruse for some tastes, we here at Jambands.com remain big boosters. The legacy of the band, which garnered the New Groove Award at the first Jammys, continues to grow with Erik Deutsch (keys) out with Charlie Hunter and Joe Russo (drums) half of the Duo, while Kevin Kendrick (vibraphone) and Jon Goldberger (guitar), Brett Joseph (sax) and Jon Gray (trumpet) among the members still active. On February 24 at New Yorks Lakeside Lounge the members of the group will come together to mark Kendricks thirtieth birthday. This will not be a full-on Fat Mama gig but rather the musicians will support Kendricks current project, A BIG YESand a small no.
