The coming year looks to be a big one for the Greyboy Allstars as the group prepares for the release of its first studio recording since 1997s A Town Called Earth. To mark the occasion, the band crossed the country for its first-ever east coast New Years Eve run. During these shows, the group offered a taste of that forthcoming disc _ What Happened To TV?_, performing such new tracks as Still Waiting, V Neck Sweater, and Left Coast Boogaloo. The New Years Eve show at the 9:30 Club also included a nod to James Brown with The Big Payback and a cover of the Beatles Get Back. On the 29th at New York Citys Nokia Theatre, The Roots ?uestlove opened the evening with a two hour DJ set that also paid tribute to JB. Meanwhile, speaking of drummers (and we were, lest you’ve forgotten ?uestlove’s principal instrument), Deep Banana Blackout Eric Kalb subbed for GBAs Zak Najor behind the kit on all the dates.
