David Gans will celebrate The Grateful Dead Hours twenty-first anniversary on Saturday with a radio marathon from beginning at 9 AM Saturday. The special will feature sixteen hours of Grateful Dead and Dead-related music and will also raise money for the nations first community radio station, the Bay Areas KPFA. In addition, the broadcast will also feature live music by the Papermill Creek Rounders, a bluegrass band featuring frequent Grateful Dead collaborator David Nelson and Banana, a member of The Youngbloods and collaborator with Zero. Although Bob Weir and Ratdog were scheduled to perform live in the studio at the marathon, an injury to keyboardist Jeff Chimenti forced a postponement. As a supplement, the marathon will feature some live Ratdog recordings along with rare music from the Grateful Dead. Bay Area listeners can listen to the program on KPFA 94.1 FM and KFCF 88.1 FM, while Deadheads elsewhere can tune-in online.
