On Friday, Medeski, Martin and Wood closed out the third annual Ski Jam with a uptempo two-set performance in Steamboat Springs Music Tent. A unique blend of jam, bluegrass and hip-hop, Ski Jam featured standout performances from a number of players including Arrested Development, Reckless Kelly, South Austin Jug Band, Larry and Pharcyes Tre Hardson. After scheduled performer Carolyn Wonderland bowed out of her scheduled performance, Jason Boland and the Stragglers anchored an extended Austin jam sessions which featured a guest appearance by Carley Wolf. Perhaps best described as Ski Jams unofficial house band, the South Austin Jug Band performed a pair of high-energy sets, packing both Ski Jams main Music Tent and its club venue, Levelz. During Steamboats Mountain Music Festival, which preceded Ski Jam by a week, Reckless Kelly also jammed with Texas-country legend Robert Earl Keen. A unique blending of worlds, Arrested Development also invited frequent Rob Wasserman/Soulive collaborator Eric Crittenden during its headlining set.
