The Derek Trucks Bands New Years Eve performance at Atlantas Variety Playhouse turned into something of a family affair, featuring both the guitarists musical and blood brethren. Reprising his role from both December 29th and 30th, Dereks brother, Duane Trucks, performed on a second drum kit, while Count M’butu played percussion throughout the DTBs entire show. Later in the set, Trucks wife Susan Tedeschi, who also appeared on the evenings bill, joined her husband onstage, supplying vocals on To Know You Is To Love You’ and ‘Lovelight and Anyday. Trucks Allman Brothers Band musical relative, Gregg Allman, himself a Georgia resident, also supplied vocals and keyboards on To Know You Is To Love You’ and ‘Lovelight, as well as Feel So Bad. In addition, Paul Olsen, who opened the evening with Scrapomatic, played guitar on a selection of numbers including Anyday, while Trucks also added a 3-piece horn section at various points throughout his show. The Derek Trucks Band will appear next at Connecticuts Ridgefield Playhouse.
