The band ulu originated more than a decade ago in a musty New Jersey basement (well okay, we can’t confirm it was musty but hey lend us some artistic license here- we can confirm it was Jersey though, so reach your own conclusions). Keyboard player Scott Chasolen, drummer David Hoffman and bassist Justin Wallace performed together as a trio for some time before a Village Voice ad eventually nabbed them guitarist Luca Benedetti and Aaron Gardner on sax. The core three have now started performing together once again and will appear next week as the Anti-Squonk Trio opening for Melvin Sparks at New York City’s Ace of Clubs, with additional gigs certainly possible down the road.
