Acoustic Syndicate performed its last concert Sunday evening at North Carolinas Smilefest. Offering a two hour first set and a three hour-plus second set, Acoustic Syndicate retired in fine form. Highlights included a segue between Bob Marley’s ‘No Woman No Cry and its own Flyswatter. Other weekend highlights included a Jimmy Herring-bolstered version of Col. Bruce Hamptons The Codetalkers performing When the World Comes Tumblin’ Down and the Drive-by Truckers running through covers ranging from Jim Carroll to AC/DC. Keller Williams also performed a set with special guests Larry and Jenny Keel, with Bela Fleck joining in on Thirsty in the Rain. After New Monsoons equipment was damaged en route to Smilefest, Bo Carper performed on a borrowed banjo. _Reporting by Randy Ray _
