Both Trey Anastasio and Page McConnell paid their longtime friend Warren Haynes a visit this weekend when Govt Mule performed at South Burlington, VTs Higher Ground. Near the end of the groups first set on Saturday night, the middle show of Mule’s three night run, McConnell joined Govt Mule for two familiar covers Bob Dylans All Along The Watchtower and ZZ Tops Jesus Just Left Chicago (a live version with McConnell also appears on the bonus disc that accompanied early copies of The Deep End Vol. 1). During Govt Mules encore, Anastasio lent his guitar skills to versions of Mules Sco-Mule and the Allman Brothers Bands Dreams. With the Jammys looming tomorrow night, many readers will no doubt recall that Anastasio played Sco-Mule at the 2002 show alongside Govt Mule and John Scofield himself. Further cementing the Mule-Phish connection, former Phish tour manager Brad Sands currently serves in a similar capacity with Govt Mule.
