The String Cheese Incident closed out its three-night, two-venue New York City run in grand fashion, selling out Radio City Music Hall on NYE. Opening with a cover of the Talking Head’s ‘This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody),’ SCI offered a two-set show at the historic theater, at which the sextet last played in 2002. Bringing SCI’s percussion lineup to three, Chris Berry joined on djembe for ‘One Step Closer’ and ‘Mouna Bowa,’ as well as a drum jam which kicked off set two. SCI rung in 2005 in high fashion, with a balloon drop at the end of the groups New Year’s countdown (which arrived a wee bit late this year). Fitting snugly with the evening’s theme, SCI also debuted a cover of Steely Dan’s ‘Reelin’ in the Years,’ before launching into a segue connecting ‘Land’s End Reprise,’ ‘Rollover’ and ‘Rivertrance.’ A double encore of ‘Boogie On Reggae Woman’ and ‘Good Times Around the Bend’ closed out the evening.
