While Perpetual Grooves guitarist, songwriter and principal vocalist Brock Butler has performed many shows on his own in the past, he recently embarked upon his first full-blown solo tour. Butler utilizes loops and a wide array of effects to complement his guitar talent to present a performance that is markedly different from the PGroove experience. Last night in South Carolina, Butler offered covers of Steve Winwood (Back In The High Life Again), Talking Heads (Na Melody (This Must Be The Place)), Paul Simon (Diamonds On The Souls of Her Shoes), and he was joined on organ by Chris Burns for a moving version of Neil Youngs Helpless. (Burns and another area musician named Michael Blair appeared for much of the show). Butler also delivered reworked versions of Perpetual Groove standards including Three Weeks and TSMM.
Butlers tour continues with two intimate Georgia appearances remaining, at The Grill 311 in Gainesville tomorrow, and at The Atlanta Room at Smiths Olde Bar in Atlanta Saturday night.Report by Rob Turner
