The North Mississippi Allstars have announced the release of their third album, Polaris. The disc, which is due out September 9 on Tone-Cool/ATO Records, has been in the works for nearly four years. The first records were building blocks, says guitarist Luther Dickinson. We’ve been thinking and talking about Polaris since 1999. We were on a three-record plan and we always knew that number three would be our most ambitious album. The CD also features the most recent addition to the band, guitarist/vocalist Duwayne Burnside, son of blues guitarist R.L. Burnside. Duwaynes cousin, Cody Burnside, also makes a guest appearance on the record, adding rap lyrics to Be So Glad.
The bands next gig is Thursday, May 29 at Sherpa & Yetis in Breckenridge, CO. The complete itinerary is available at www.nmallstars.com.
