The Meters will cap off the year with a special hometown show. The funk pioneers will appear at New Orleans’ Orpheum Theater on December 31, celebrating the 50^th anniversary of their eighth and final album, 1977’s New Directions. Dumpstaphunk will open the night, performing the music of Sly and the Family Stone.

Drummer Zigaboo Modeliste, guitarist Leo Nocentelli, bassist George Porter Jr. and percussionist/singer Cyril Neville regrouped as The Meters for the first time since Art Neville’s 2019 passing this spring for a pair of guest-heavy performances around Jazz Fest. Dumpstaphunk keyboardist Ivan Neville filled in for his uncle Art during the shows.
