The Nolafunk Series has added Voodoo Dead to its programming, set to stage from April 25-May 5 during the weekends and evenings of New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival. This release follows the first dispatch on Jan. 16, which welcomed six acts including Dead Feat, Daniel Donato and Anders Osborne to the 11th annual event. Beyond this stacked run of engagements, more shows will still be announced as the event approaches.
Voodoo Dead is an all-star jam-funk outfit featuring Steve Kimock, Jackie Greene, JM Kimock, guitarist Al Schnier of moe. and legendary Meters bassist George Porter Jr. The ensemble debuted at Jazz Fest in 2015 as Steve Kimock, Bill Kreutzman, Jeff Chimenti, Dave Schools and Keller Williams; performances on April 27 & 28 at Republic NOLA will mark the current iteration’s inauguration. On the 27th, Duane Betts will join the band as a special guest, bringing yet another degree of jam prestige to the project.
Voodoo Dead joins a lineup featuring familiar favorites and newcomers to the event alike. Daniel Donato’s Cosmic NOLA will kick off the festivities on April 26 with the psychedelic New Orleans tribute’s 2nd annual staging, alongside special guests still to be announced. The premiere performance of Delta Blues Explosion comes next on April 27, followed by Dead Feat, composed of Anders Osborne, John Gros, Greene and Chad Cromwell, plus Fred Tackett and Kenny Gradney of Little Feat. Anders Osborne will wrap the series on May 4 with his annual NOLA birthday bash, featuring a veritable supergroup of guest stars Greene, Luther Dickinson, Porter Jr. and Dave Malone of The Radiators.
An exclusive presale for Voodoo Dead at Republic NOLA on April 27 & 28 is open now. General on-sale begins this Friday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. CT. For tickets, more information and further show announcements for the 2024 series, visit https://www.nolafunk.com/nola/.
