Marcus King will return to his hometown of Greenville, SC for a special benefit performance at the end of the year. Billed as Doin’ it for Dingledine, the event will take place at Greenville’s The Foundry at Judson Mill on Friday, December 29, raising money to support composer and local jazz guitarist Matt Dingledine, who was diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer in early September. In addition to the Marcus King Band, the evening will feature appearances by fellow area musician Edwin McCain and King’s father, guitarist Marvin King. Darby Wilcox and the Peep Show, the Fine Arts Center Jazz All-Stars and the Shannon Hoover Trio will round out the bill.
Dingledine, who has worked as an instructor at the Fine Arts Center, taught several of the concert’s performers, including Marcus King. The Marcus King Band will close 2023 with a headlining show at Norfolk, VA’s The NorVa on December 30 and a support spot for The Avett Brothers at Raleigh, NC’s PNC Arena on December 31.
