On Tuesday, May 9, Dave Matthews Band kicked off their tour with a show at El Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. For their opening night, the ensemble dug deep into their songbook with three bust outs along with the debut of a brand new track, “Looking For A Vein,” from their forthcoming album, Walk Around The Moon, which is set to release on May 19.
The septet got the show moving with some old favorites, dishing out “Satellite,” “Pantala Naga Pampa” and “Rapunzel.” Then, they moved into some more recent material, delivering the 2018 release “Come On, Come On,” as well as the lead single from their impending LP, “Madman’s Eyes.”
Halfway through their concert, the band surprised fans with some rare material: Come Tomorrow deep-cut “Virginia Rain,” served as the first bust-out of the night. They followed up with “Jimi Thing,” before diving into “Bismarck,” for the first time since 2016. They then treated fans to “#41” and “Grey Stuff,” before offering up the 2002 release “Busted Stuff,” for the first time since 2010.
The jammers kept the concert’s second half flowing with another fan-favorite, “The Space Between,” which was trailed by “Louisiana Bayou,” Crash standout “Crash Into Me” and a full-band debut of their second release off Walk Around The Moon, “Monsters.” They capped the frame with the 1991 staple, “Warehouse.”
Finally, Dave Matthews Band polished off the night with a two-track encore. Upon returning to the stage, Matthews announced that he and his band would debut a “teeny-tiny” track from the yet-to-released Walk Around The Moon, entitled “Looking For A Vein.” After playing through the brand-new ballad, the band picked up the pace for a closing round of “Don’t Drink The Water.”
