Last night, Goose performed the first evening of their two-night run at the Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground in Thornville, Ohio. During the first set of the evening, which is part of their Dripfield Summer tour, they debuted two songs by band members’ past and side projects: Great Blue and Vasudo.

Great Blue was formed by Goose keyboardist Peter Anspach while back in high school and still performs occasionally, and many of their songs have been added to Goose’s discography. Vasudo is comprised of Matt Campbell along with Goose’s guitarist Rick Mitarotonda, percussionist Jeff Arevalo, bassist Trevor Weekz and Anspach.

Goose opened Friday’s show with “California Magic” before tapping Great Blue’s catalog for the debut of “Butterflies.” Before breaking out the track Anspach said, “Since this place is so comfortable, we’re gonna play a couple of new songs tonight, and here’s one of those.” Next, Goose shared a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo.” which was followed by a jam of “The Old Man’s Boat” and “Creatures.” They capped the first set with the debut of Vasduo’s 2012 song “Turbulence & The Night Rays.”

The second set started with a 30-minute “All I Need” flush with improvisation, expansion and sonic communication. Next came a cover of The Moody Blues’ 1967 hit “Nights In White Satin.” The song was followed by “Red Bird” which debuted on Jan. 30 of this year. Set two was closed with a pairing of “Spirit Of The Dark Horse” and “Dragonfly I.” Goose encored with a “Jive I”

Goose will perform at the Legend Valley Concert Venue and Campground in Thornville, Ohio again tonight.
