Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder have announced a new LP, Get On Board: The Songs Of Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, out April 22 via Nonesuch Records. They have also shared the video for “Hooray Hooray.”
The LP consists of 11 tracks of material initially performed by Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee covered by Mahal (vocals, harmonica, guitar, piano) and Cooder (vocals, guitar, mandolin, banjo) alongside Joachim Cooder (drums, bass).
The duo first joined forces in 1965 as The Rising Sons and signed with Columbia Records, but an album was never realized. Get On Board: The Songs Of Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee is the first time Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder have recorded since.
They have also shared an interview on YouTube about the making of the album. Watch below.
