The music and art community continues to mourn the loss of Tim Vega, who passed away last week. Vega was very active in the New York City music scene, working very closely with many bands, specifically Blues Traveler. He designed the bands first album cover as well as murals, flyers and t-shirts. Vega was the in-house artist at Wetlands Preserve, where his style of psychedelic graffiti came to life. He painted the bathrooms, the famous VW bus, which is now on display at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as well as the roll-gate outside. Timmy was a warm soul, says former Wetlands talent buyer Chris Zahn. He was an incredible talent and contributed so much to Wetlands. He had a great sense of humor, I even remember him jumping on stage one night and rapping with a member of the Jungle Brothers. Wetlands crew will miss him dearly.
‘Tim was one of the people that made wetlands what it was,’ says former owner Pete Shapiro. ‘He was a caring, sweet, and unique person. When you saw him, he made you happy and laugh. Just a really sweet guy, in every way. He will be greatly missed by a lot of people.’
