Mike Torpie, the founder and host of the weekly Nederland Acid Jazz gigs as well as the Nederland Music & Arts Festival is up for local election. Torpie is running for one of three Trustee seats within the town of Nederland. Incidentally, while Torpie is known as ‘Michigan Mike’ it is worth noting that he has resided in Nederland for nearly a decade and he asserts, ‘with the exception of one person who has been here a whopping 58-years I have lived in Nederland longer then any other Trustee candidate.’ Voting takes place today in Nederland and anyone who wishes to learn more about the candidate’s stance on the issues should visit his web site (and those who wish to learn more about Nedfest should visit that site).
