A number of acts slated to perform at the inaugural Hippy Hill Hoodang which took place this past weekend at the Bill Monroe Memorial Park & Campground in Bean Blossom, IN did not take the stage. Apparently rainstorms in the area served as a contributing factor, although some questions remain regarding the financial solvency of the event as a whole. At the festival web site, the promoters explain, ‘Indy LIVE apologizes to all its fans for the failed hippy hill hoodang. Indy LIVE worked hard for about six months and invested our own money to try to make the concert work for the bands and the fans. Indy LIVE lost money as did other people whose efforts contributed to the concert. There is nothing we can do but apologize to all those who are, like us, disappointed.’
Meanwhile, Umphrey McGee’s manager Vince Iwinski ,a href=‘http://www.umphreaks.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19844’TARGET=U>explained on the Umphreaks message board that his group did not perform because ‘no amplified electric music could be played’ since the ‘sound company did not have any insurance to cover them if something were to happen.’ Beyond that, Iwinski indicated that he was told the group would not be compensated for their performance. The manager added, ‘We are very sorry that some of you were disappointed. We drove all the way to Bean Blossom and waited around for hours because we wanted to put on a show. We all were looking very forward to this festival, and were quite disappointed that the weather ruined everything. It flat out sucked to drive out of there not having played (or get paid for that matter, in case you’re wondering!!!!!!)
