Last year, The New Riders of the Purple Sage received a Jammy nomination for Veneta, Oregon: 8/27/72. Now two of the musicians who played at that show and served as integral components of the group have assembled a new incarnation of the band. David Nelson and Buddy Cage will be joined by Michael Falzarano, Johnny Markowski and Ronnie Penque for a five show tour that begins tonight. Following this evenings performance at Rain Desert in Danielson, CT, the New Riders will appear at Mexicali Blues (Teaneck, NJ, October 6), Joyous Lake (Woodstock, NY, October 7), Harvest Fest (Bainbridge, NY, October 8) and Brownies 23 East (Ardmore, PA, October 9). Co-founder John Dawson, who wrote much of the bands material is unable to tour due to ongoing health problems but is said to have given Nelson and Cage his blessings.
