In 1999, Mike Gordon and Page McConnell released a track with members of the funky Meters under the assumed name the Gyptians for the Get You a Healin’ benefit CD. Almost ten years later, Gordon and MConnell once again looked towards New Orleans during Porter Batiste Stoltzs performance at South Burlington, VTs Higher Ground. McConnell has been on the road with the trio in support of the groups new live CD Moodoo and, on Saturday, Gordon also took the stage with the quartet for three songs, including McConnells Back in the Basement. If Art Neville had been onstage the performance would have been the first full performance by the Gyptians core lineup.
