Bob Weir & RatDog will open their spring tour this evening in St. Paul at O’Shaughnessy Auditorium. While in Minnesota on Thursday night, however, Weir and bandmate Jay Lane visited the home of Archie and Tina Smith, who were hosting a fundraiser in support of Al Franken’s U.S. Senate campaign. Weir and Lane performed four songs at the Smiths along with the Grateful Volunteers (Mike Weinberg, guitar; Jim Hinckley, bass; Annie Hicks, vocals). Lane provided cardboard box percussion during ‘K.C. Moan,’ ‘When I Paint My Masterpiece,’ ‘Friend of the Devil’ and ‘Brokedown Palace.’
