Billy Strings and Bryan Sutton have teased the impending arrival of new music. The pair, who previously released Live at The Legion, have tethered their talents to “The Devil Went Down to Deep Gap.” The track will arrive on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026.

The aforementioned instrumental preview was shared on social media in the form of an animated short. In the clip, a golden acoustic guitar and the devil’s pitchfork bookend each side of the track’s title, with a background laden with pines and greenery–an apparent locational reference to Doc Watson’s North Carolina birthplace.

Samples of the impending single trailed a New Year’s Day picking party at Hot Rize’s Tim O’Brien’s Nashville area abode. Photos and videos were shared on social media, featuring the likes of Strings, Bela Fleck, Michael Cleveland, Sam Grisman, and other top regional players.

On Instagram, guitarist Guthrie Trapp noted, “I called Gibbons, and he swung in after a session and met some of the world’s finest bluegrass and acoustic musicians,” referencing the ZZ Top lead singer and guitarist. See the post below.
