From the late ‘60s to the start of the ‘70s, The Doors emerged as the face of a bold new guard in rock, sharing a string of unprecedented albums that forever altered popular music. Featuring the magnetic Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger and drummer John Densmore, the Los Angeles quartet pooled their talents and marked their unique perspective with a heady brew of rock, blues, and psychedelia. After their final album, L.A. Woman, and Morrison’s sudden passing in 1971, their ride came to an end, but not before solidifying their status as one of the greatest bands of their era and leaving an enduring influence on generations of artists to come.
In honor of the 60th anniversary of The Doors’ formation, Trafalgar Releasing has announced a re-release of When You’re Strange, Tom DiCillo’s Grammy-winning 2009 documentary. The celebrated film, newly remastered in 4K, is updated with an introduction from Densmore and Kreiger, as well as the global debut of the surviving members’ new recorded version of “Riders of the Storm.” Created in partnership with Playing for Change, Densmore and Kreiger’s new treatment features more than 20 artists from around the world, including Lukas and Micah Nelson, Sierra Ferrell, Rami Jaffee of the Foo Fighters and the Lakota Drum Group.
Tickets for When You’re Strange will go on sale next Thursday, Oct. 30, at 9 a.m. ET. For more information on the film and participating cinemas, visit WhenYoureStrangeMovie.com.
