Over the weekend, the Great South Bay Music Festival played host to a slew of jam scene favorites during the July 24-27 gathering at Shorefront Park in Patchogue, N.Y. During Saturday, July 26’s schedule, Umphrey’s McGee sat in during moe.’s final delivery. The joint ensemble covered a piece from the Black Sabbath archive as an ode to the late Ozzy Osbourne.
Prior to the team-up, Umphrey’s McGee commenced their festival frame with assistance from drummer Scotty Zwang, who helped the group open their set with a pairing of “All In Time” into “Puppet String.” After a brief pause, the group picked up a nonstop sequence of “Wappy Sprayberry” and “40s Theme,” and capped the songs with a run-through of “Bridgeless.”
On the other side of their 2009 Mantis featured cut, Umphrey’s McGee positioned their independent ode to Ozzy, by performing “No More Tears,” a song that has been a feature of their live show since 2004. Before capping their festival frame, the band delivered paired treatments of “The Silent Type” and “All in Time.”
Umphrey’s cover set up their arrival during moe.’s ensuing festival set, sharing the same sentiment by arriving as a tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. For the collective delivery, members of both bands applied their prowess to “The Wizard,” an early Sabbath track that was included on their 1970 debut album.
According to setlist.FM, “The Wizard” first entered moe.’s archive in 2013, and has been played on seven total occasions. Notably, Saturday’s positioning on the setlist represented the first time the band had covered the Sabbath original since October 30, 2021, making it a bust-out.
