Sierra Ferrell is basking in the afterglow of her fourth full-length studio album, Trail of Flowers, and reeling in its success by announcing the impending deluxe edition of the record, due on January 31, 2025. After defining herself as a standout figure in Americana, bluegrass, and roots music, the songstress revealed a bonus track, an expanded arrangement of “The Garden.”
Word of Trail of Flowers’ expansion comes on the heels of Ferrel’s Grammy nominations, which number four, including Best Americana Album, Best Americana Performance (“American Dreaming”), Best American Roots Song (“American Dreaming”), and Best American Roots Performance (“Lighthouse”), which have cemented her status as a forerunner of the craft.
In addition to the 12-track collection produced by Eddie Spear and produced with assistance from Gary Paczosa, the deluxe edition will include two new recordings: the old-timey bluegrass smash “Don’t Let Your Deal Go Down” and an expanded take on her contributions to the Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes soundtrack, “The Garden.”
Ferrell enlists stratified pulses of pedal steel, piano, strings, and percussion atop “The Garden’s” twangy lyrical turnover, which takes the shape of a meditation on love and its everlasting sting administered through a garth allegory. At the heart of the track [and across the entirety of Ferrell’s latest LP] is the ability to conjure the tone and vocal-likeness to the greats, Janis Joplin and Dolly Parton, defining herself as an unabashed powerhouse and one of the best voices out there.
Trail of Flowers: Deluxe Edition will be available digitally, and a limited supply of physical deluxe albums will be available at the end of the month. To order or learn more, visit www.sierraferrellmusic.com.
