Widespread Panic have announced the cancellation of the next two three-night runs on its 2024 live calendar, scrapping previously planned performances in Boston and Las Vegas. This news arrives four days after the band revealed that Jimmy Herring, storied guitarist since 2006, has been diagnosed with stage one tonsil cancer and will need to withdraw from scheduled live engagements to begin treatment. Per the band, Herring is expected to make a full recovery: “That part we’re happy to report.”
“The Band regrets missing these two runs but wants to give enough fair warning so everyone can adjust their plans with as little inconvenience as possible,” the band discloses in a post to its social channels. The message also specifies that reimbursement for the canceled shows will be tendered directly from the venues, and ticketholders need not take any action to secure their refunds.
Before Tuesday, Widespread Panic was planning to perform at Asheville, N.C.’s ExploreAsheville.com Arena this weekend, plotting shows from July 25-27. The band’s Boston appearances at MGM Music Hall at Fenway on August 20-22 would have marked the band’s first performances in the city in nine years, and the September 20-22 dates at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas interrupt the band’s third annual run at the venue. Widespread Panic still plans to perform at The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee on Oct. 25-27 and return to Savannah, Ga.’s Enmarket Arena for the third year of its home state Halloween celebration on Nov. 1 and 2.
