Spafford took to its social channels today to announce the cancellation of its first week of summer performances, pushing the outset of its US tour back to mid-June. In a text-based post, the band disclosed that guitarist Brian Moss is facing health issues, preventing the group from fulfilling its first four planned appearances at Ludington, Mich.’s Stix on June 6, Whitestown, Ind.’s Moontown Brewery on June 7, Paw Paw, Mich.’s Warner Vineyards on June 8 and New Berlin, Ill.’s Danenberg Family Vineyards on June 9.

Addressing the fans directly, Spafford wrote, “We’re saddened to have to share that Brian has come down with an illness, and we’re forced to cancel the first week of our Summer Tour. Please send Brian all the good vibes and energy you’ve got – we’ll see you out there SOON.”

This incident follows a harrowing start to the year for the beloved jam scene staple, which was derailed during its spring run when its tour van was rear-ended at over 65 miles per hour en route to a March 28 performance at Columbus, Ohio’s Woodlands Tavern. While the band was cleared by a hospital and took the stage as scheduled the following day, it ultimately canceled its next two engagements to properly treat enduring injuries as Moss went to the hospital with head and neck trauma. Spafford ultimately returned to business as usual after the sudden fright and have since performed regularly at venues like Brooklyn, N.Y.’s Brooklyn Bown and Pelham, Tenn.’s CaveJam at The Caverns.

Fans who had planned to attend Spafford’s canceled concerts can attain refunds through the original points of purchase for each. The band is expected to return to the road next week, kicking off a 15-stop summer tour with a performance at Rochester, N.Y.’s Water Street Music Hall.
