Co-founders of New York’s Brooklyn Bowl, Charley Ryan and Peter Shapiro, have sat down and discussed Blue Ribbon Restaurants’ 30-year milestone and their 13-year-long involvement at the iconic Williamsburg venue in a new mini-documentary, which is available to stream on YouTube. Watch now.
The video, which was recently uploaded to the online streaming platform, commemorates the work of brothers, chefs and restauranteurs Bruce and Eric Bloomberg, who used their decades-long experience in the restaurant industry to develop a vision for culinary excellence at New York’s Brooklyn Bowl.
Established in 2009, Brooklyn Bowl has been an entertainment mecca since opening its doors. From bowling to live music, the founders’ only added requirement was excellent cuisine to complement the experience. “These guys were our first choice, no question about that. We didn’t bounce around and come to them. We started with them and we landed that,” offers Ryan.
“When we were creating Brooklyn Bowl, we were like, ‘Let’s add some food to the experience–this multi-sensory, New Orleans, late-night–’ And, really, the first call, ‘Let’s go to Blue Ribbon,’” echos Shapiro.
From their famous fried chicken to house-smoked ribs and wings and a plethora of vegan and vegetarian options, the Brooklyn Bowl menu represents a diverse offering that encapsulates the Blue Ribbon Restaurant experience, which began in 1992 at New York’s Brasserie.
“You know, they’ve got rock and roll in their food, and we’ve got food in our rock and roll,” sums up Brooklyn Bowl’s General Manager, Stephen Schartz. “It’s a perfect fit for both of us.”
