On Oct. 15, Zero, the brainchild of guitarist Steve Kimock and drummer Greg Anton, celebrated the 30th anniversary of the recording of their breakout song and LP Chance In a Million at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco. The performance, which tracked in at over two-and-a-half hours, celebrated the LP – lush with Robert Hunter’s lyrics – along with an array of covers and some of Zero’s more contemporary material.

The video features Kimock on guitar, Anton handling percussion, Pete Sears on bass, and Spencer Burrows on vocals and keys. The ensemble was rounded out by Brooks Anderson on conga and Steve Steinberg on saxophone, and during the second set, the ensemble welcomed the next generation with Miles Kimock on guitar and Jessica Fierro on vocals.

During the set, they performed tracks from their back catalog, including “Gregg’s Eggs,” “Tear Tags off Mattresses,” “Cole’s Law,” and, of course, “Chance in a Million,” which included the piano outro from “Layla.” Covers enjoyed over the course of the evening included “Space Oddity” by David Bowie and Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home,” which saw a stunning duet from Burrows and Fierro. The evening closed with a tasteful rendition of “Morning Dew.”
