After over two decades Anthony Kiedis and Dave Navarro shared a stage to cover Lou Reed’s iconic song “Walk on the Wild Side.” The impromptu performance was part of a charity concert Navarro put together titled Above Ground at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles. The concert was to the benefit of the non-profit MusiCares which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.

The event was set to feature guests like Billy Idol and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, but both backed out last minute do due to an illness. To make good on his promise of a high-profile lineup Navarro was able to get Kiedis on stage marking their first set together since 1997.

Navarro only played on the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ 1995 album One Hot Minute and was a polarizing figure to fans who had great admiration for John Frusciante who has since rejoined the band. The performance was true to the original track and featured steady guitar from Navarro and laidback crooning from Kiedis.
