Famed Queen guitarist and Ph.D. in astrophysics Brian May made comments in response to Eric Clapton’s reaction to the COVID-19 mandates throughout the United Kingdom.

May is one of many musicians and artists who have looked with disapproval towards Clapton’s decision to boycott any venue that requires patrons to prove they’ve been vaccinated

“I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from me in many ways,” May said to The Independent. “…We have our disagreements, but I would never stop respecting the man.”

May also said that he believes that Anti-vax people are “fruitcakes.”

“There’s plenty of evidence to show that vaccination helps,” said May “On the whole, they’ve been very safe. There’s always going to be some side effect in any drug you take, but to go around saying vaccines are a plot to kill you, I’m sorry, that goes in the fruitcake jar for me.”

Clapton has a run of shows slated through the United States upcoming on Sept. 13.

New York City has recently announced that all small venues, gyms, and event spaces will require proof of vaccination.

Brian May recently reissued his solo album Back to the Light.
