Grateful Dead HQ took a dive into their ’70s video vault for this week’s edition of All The Years Live, showcasing their 12/31/78 “Casey Jones” from the historic final concert at San Francisco’s Winterland Arena.
“Another well-known and much-loved tune from Workingman’s Dead, ‘Casey Jones’ was played very sporadically after 1974, until it was finally retired on 3/27/93 in Albany, NY,” explains GD legacy manager/archivist David Lemieux. “This performance from the Closing Of Winterland was the opening song of the encore, which they followed by ‘Johnny B. Goode’ and ‘We Bid You Goodnight’ before sending people out with breakfast into 1979.”
