Donna Betts, wife of founding member of the Allman Brothers Dickey Betts, was arrested after deputies claimed a video showed her standing on her dock, aiming a 30-30 Winchester rifle at a high school rowing crew threatening to shoot them.
MySunCoast.com reported the arrest from the incident that occurred around 5:30 PM on Monday afternoon in Osprey, FL in Sarasota County. Members of the Sarasota Crew rowing team were holding their daily practice when Betts appeared on her dock with a rifle.
According to reports, she began pointing the rifle at different crew members who were in their boats and threatening to shoot them. Betts also reportedly told the students and coaches if they came on her property, she would shoot. Deputies noted that at no time did crew members enter Betts’ property.
The incident, which was captured on a cell phone, ends with Betts throwing the rifle into the water and a follow-up 911 call from her saying that “the crew from Sarasota High School have destroyed her life and she has had it, identifying herself as Donna.”
Betts has been charged with 18 counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and for “causing a well founded fear coupled with the ability to produce great bodily harm and/or death.”
