This coming Monday marks the birthday of the late Dave Matthews Band sax player LeRoi Moore. To honor his memory, the LeRoi Moore Fund has announced the initial recipients of endowed scholarship funds set to begin during the 2010-2011 academic year. A four-year/$2,500 per year scholarship towards college expenses will go to a student at Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, VA which Moore attended (and where his father taught). A four-year/$5,000 per year scholarship is available to Business and Education majors at North Carolina Central University, in the two departments where Moore’s parents studied while at the university. A four-year/$5,000 per year scholarship will be granted to a nursing student at the University of Virginia School of Nursing (Moore was treated at The University of Virginia Medical Center). The fund also will make annual donations to Toys For Tots, Habitat for Humanity, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
