Yo La Tengo will skip its semi-annual Chanukah shows in Hoboken, NJ this December to tour Japan. The trio’s Chanukah shows have developed into destination events over the years, featuring special guests, rare covers, surprise openers and comedic interludes. As a makeup of sorts to area fans, Yo La Tengo has added some extra names to its September 25 show at New York’s Roseland Ballroom. In a note the band says, “It had already been announced that The Black Lips would be opening, but get there earlier and be treated to the Susquehanna Industrial Tool & Die Co., manufacturing some ballads, boogie and blues out in the lobby. I also overheard Ira reminiscing about seeing the Joshua Light Show at the Fillmore East… Well, joining those aforementioned bands at the Roseland will be The Joshua White and Gary Panter’s Light Show. You might remember Gary Panter from such album covers as I Am Not Afraid of You and I Will Beat Your Ass, or TV shows like Pee-Wee’s Playhouse. Their upcoming performance might or might not be something like this (taken from a 2005 performance at the Anthology Film Archives, NYC).” The trio will appear at South Burlington, VT’s Higher Ground on September 15.
