Saturday’s performance by Pearl Jam at the New Orleans Jazz Festival will be simulcast to the 256th Infantry Brigade Combat team in Iraq. This unit is comprised of Louisiana National Guardsmen currently serving in that country. In addition, a two-way live audio and video feed will be established so that festivalgoers will see a feed of the soldiers in Iraq watching the concert. As the festival explains, “Exact details are kept strictly confidential as the participating soldiers are in a war zone, but the plan is to broadcast the performance live at 1 a.m. local time in Balad, Iraq…The military onsite at the base will have a camera and a microphone for the local soldiers to say a few words to their hometown friends and family from across the world. Who knows, there might even be a “who dat!” from a half a world away.”
