The Global Citizen Festival, which was held September 29 at New York’s Central Park, raised a staggering $1.3 billion in pledged donations to groups that are working to end extreme poverty. The festival featured performances by Neil Young & Crazy Horse, The Foo Fighters, The Black Keys, Band of Horses and K’NAAN. 60,000 fans came out to see the festival, with most of them earning free tickets after educating themselves about various issues related to poverty and injustices around the world. The U.S. Fund for UNICEF, Half the Sky and The Global Partnership for Education were among the group’s that pledged to donate large amounts of money.
