Spin Doctors drummer Aaron Comess will showcase his jazz chops next month. The Aaron Comess Quintet will play a set of his favorite material from the 1960s at New York’s distinguished Smoke Jazz on August 13. For the show, Comess will bring together a group of musicians that reflects his eclectic career, merging some members of his original group Beautiful Mistake and his jazz quintet as well as an old high school friend from the Arts Magnet High School in Dallas on sax. The rest of the band will consist of keyboardist Barney McAll (Dewey Redman, Jimmy Cobb, Kenny Garrett), bassist Richard Hammond and Teddy Kumpel (Rickie Lee Jones, New York Electric Piano).
