LaMP, the relatively new and mostly inactive supergroup made up of guitarist Scott Metzger, drummer Russ Lawton and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski, have released their debut single, titled “Some Days.”
The track, posted to Bandcamp, is an instrumental, and it features cover art by Metzger’s fiancée and collaborator Katie Jacoby.
The band’s description on Bandcamp reads: “LaMP is a cooperative trio of drummer Russ Lawton, organist Ray Paczkowski, and guitarist Scott Metzger. This new sound fuses the tested synergy of ‘Russ and Ray’ from Soule Monde and Trey Anastasio Band, with Metzger’s acrobatic melodies on telecaster.”
The trio performed a “one night only” gig in 2018 at Nectar’s in Burlington, Vt.

April 23, 2020 at 3:41 pmI can’t speak for Metzger other than to say anytime I’ve heard him play, he sounded fine. But to call out Lawton and/or Paczkowski would suggest that you’re clueless when it comes to drums and keys (or maybe just Trey/Phish trolls). While they might not meet the definition of a “supergroup”, I’d bet they are far from a 4th tier anything. Each of those guys is as solid as they come and it has nothing to do with their connection to Trey, or anyone else.
