Ginger Baker, iconic drummer and co-founder of ’60s rock band Cream, has been hospitalized and is “critically ill,” according to a short statement on the musician’s social media. “Please keep him in your prayers,” the note reads (h/t JamBase).
Stay tuned for more information on the developing story.
Baker founded Cream with Eric Clapton and bassist Jack Bruce in 1966 and, in the band’s short time together, helped them become an influence on a number of artists since with enduring hits like “Sunshine of Your Love,” “White Room,” “Crossroads” and more, and the group is sometimes known as the first supergroup ever created (along with Clapton’s previous success, Baker and Bruce collaborated in both Blues Incorporated as well as the Graham Bond Organisation). Baker also clocked in time with Clapton and Steve Winwood’s Blind Faith.

September 26, 2019 at 4:33 pmsaw him at The Bottom Line in NYC in the 80’s. He strolled in 1 1/2 hours late. Walked up to the mic and said, ” I overslept piss off”. He then went backstage, emerged 30 minutes later quite “gaga” and immediately pounded the shit on the kit for 2 hours. C’mon you old fart, beat this too!!!!

September 26, 2019 at 6:47 amI still laugh to myself when I think of his response to what he thought of John Bonham’s drumming – “he couldn’t swing a sack of shit!” Probably not true, but funny as hell. He never minced words and he always told people what he thought. One of a kind!

September 25, 2019 at 7:27 pmBack in the late 60’s, They predicted he would be dead in a few years, due to his well-known drug use. I look at it like he’s proved them all wrong, and won at the game.
