For the latest iteration of their “All The Years Live” video series, Grateful Dead HQ has shared a pro-shot “Big Boss Man” from the band’s 6/16/90 gig Mountain View, Calif.
“A staple of the Pigpen-era Grateful Dead, ‘Big Boss Man’ departed the repertoire when Pigpen departed the stage in 1972,” said GD archivist/legacy manager David Lemieux of the recording. “Although it returned in 1981 for 15 performances over the next 15 years, it was sadly never incorporated into the setlist on a full time basis. This penultimate version features a gnarly lead vocal by Jerry.”

September 20, 2019 at 9:00 amY’all do realize that penultimate means the ONE BEFORE LAST. Don’t ya.
The article says 15 years staring in 1981. So, none of these comments are corrections or contradictions to the story.

September 19, 2019 at 6:51 pmMV is right this is the second to last BBM and 6/16/90 was last until Riverport 95.
I was in for this one as well as the one previous to this on NYE 89 with Bonnie Raitt. Gotta say it’s kinda silly for them to keep putting stuff out that the majority of us who care already have on an official release DVD.
