Widespread Panics John Bell will host and headline the fourth annual Hannahs Buddies Charity Classic and FightSMA Benefit Bash, a golf tournament and concert to raise money to fight Spinal Muscular Atrophy. The event will take place January 18 at Disney Worlds Lake Buena Vista Golf Club, followed by dinner at the House of Blues in Downtown Disney and an acoustic performance by Bell. Robert Randolph and the Family Band will also take the stage.
This event has become a rite of the new year,’ says Duncan Elliott, president of Hannah’s Buddies, an arm of the national FightSMA organization, Andrew’s Buddies, and father of Hannah, the event’s namesake. It’s a great time and a great cause. Golf and music fans get to see first-hand who they are supporting, and the kids get to see the community coming out to support them and drive research toward a cure for the disease.’
I’ve been overwhelmed by the reaction of the fans,’ says Bell. It’s a serious cause, but it’s a lot of fun, too. Hannah and her friends are wonderful ambassadors of the SMA effort. It’s impossible not to be touched by them. And the two interests – golf and music – are so great at building relationships and developing the kind of interaction that can make things happen, whether you’re onstage with professional musicians or getting away with friends on the golf course. It’s really a great time.’
