Saxophone player George Brooks has assembled a venerable collection of artists for his current Summit project. He is currently touring with a group that includes Zakir Hussain on tabla, Fareed Haque on guitars and electric sitar, Kai Eckhardt on bass and Steve Smith on drum kit. The collective, which melds traditional Indian influences with more contemporary jazz, has recorded a disc entitled Summit that is available at Brooks’ web site. Summit is in the midst of a two night stand at the Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant in Minneapolis, MN with an additional gig tomorrow night at the Athenaeum Jazz at the Neurosciences Institute in San Diego, CA.
