On September 10, ulu will revisit its original lineup, playing a special performance at New York Citys lauded Blue Note. The last time the original ulu quintet performed was November 19, 1999 at the Wetlands Preserve, as documented on Live at the Wetlands. After the show, guitarist Luca Benedetti departed amicably. The remaining quartet (Scott Chasolen (keyboards), Aaron Gardner (tenor sax/flute), David Hoffman (drums) and Justin Wallace (bass) continued to tour, also recording _ Whats the Deal _.
In 2002, Hoffman and Wallace also departed, leaving Chasolen and Gardner as ulus sole founding members. The most current incarnation of ulu, with Killeen and Russ Kleiner (drums), gave its final performance last week as part of the Rocks Off Boat Cruise series. Ulus The Blue Note performance begins at 12:00 midnight. Admission is $8.
